Summary – Revised Framework Directive on Waste (WFD) 2025

On October 16, 2025, Directive (EU) 2025/1892 will come into effect, amending Directive 2008/98/EC.
This directive creates the first EU-wide legal framework for textile waste management, aimed at protecting the environment and human health and accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
+ Main Objectives 🎯
• Reducing the environmental and health impact of waste production and management.
• Promoting circularity in the textile sector – the fourth most resource-intensive sector in the EU.
• Introduction of mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes for textiles, with eco-modulated contributions based on the sustainability and recyclability of products.
